In order to prevent unscrupulous and disruptive acts by persons engaging in door-to-door soliciting and selling of goods, merchandise and wares it is illegal to do so in Pomona, unless the person doing so has obtained a permit from the Village.
To obtain a permit from the Village, an applicant needs to provide their name and address, physical description, detailed information on what they will be selling, prior arrests, vehicle information, photographs of their face and additional items. Our law also describes what the permit holder may and may not do while soliciting. Our Peddler’s Permit application may be found HERE.
If anyone comes to your door to sell you something, you may ask to see the permit issued by the Village of Pomona (if the permit was issued by a different municipality, it holds no validity within Pomona). If the person cannot provide a permit (or says their boss has it), you can advise them that soliciting is illegal in Pomona and/or call the Ramapo Police Department in the Ramapo side of our village or Haverstraw Police Department in the Haverstraw side of our village to have them ask that person to leave the Village and issue a violation.
Charitable organizations are exempt from this law.

I hope you found this information useful. I will be periodically sharing similar information about some of our other laws in the future.
